Abstract

First announcement on the natural selection theory was published in Polish in 1860 by an agrarian journal. At Warsaw University (Grand School) Benedykt Dybowski started evolution lectures in 1862. After his transportation to Syberia, Darwinism was the permanent element of zoology teaching (1864-1889) by August Wrześniowski. Darwin's theory was popularized by the press led to a sharp dispute, which was a part of the general controversy between Warsaw Positive Philosophy and conservative catholic groups. In the fights for Darwinian theory in press active and competent was Bronisław Rejchman author of numerous articles.
