Abstract

The official opening of the Dendrological Garden in Poznań took place in 1925. The purpose of the creation of the Garden was to create a „living laboratory” for students of dendrology. Currently, the collection has over 1000 taxa and its area is about 20 ha.

The main objective of the Dendrological Garden is to collect trees and shrubs for scientific, didactic and educational purposes, with particular emphasis on species of Polish dendroflora.

Didactic classes are aimed to the students of the natural specializations of University Life Sciences in Poznań.

The priority objective of the Garden is the protection of biodiversity. Scientific research is conducted directly in the Garden or on material from the Garden and concerns the morphological variability of native species of trees and shrubs, the introduction, acclimatization and developmental rhythm of trees and shrubs, and methods of cultivation of endangered and dying-out species of Polish dendroflora.

Educational activities for kindergartens, primary and secondary schools and are carried out in the form of trips and workshops.
