Abstract

The presented work summarizes the current knowledge of the abundance of the fungal kingdom in the world and in Poland and emphasizes the role of fungi in ecosystems. It is an appeal to the use of the term "FUNGA" in natural history descriptions. It presents the contribution of Botanical Gardens and selected museums to mycological education.
